DOPING (08.02.2018)

DOPING
From various media I have recently heard, that a Swiss doctor and triathlete is involved in a doping scandal with links to Russia. I have not read all the stories and do not know the details and background and do not want to speculate in publicly.
The question is whether I should care less if athletes stuff themselves with doping and break their bodies. There are also people who harm their bodies with smoking, excessive alcohol, drug use or unhealthy diets. As a triathlete, however, this headline from the past few days is affecting me. Apart from the health consequences, which the public must carry by the misuse of the means mentioned, "Doper" also cheat their competitors. Through the results that they would not be able to do without doping, they might grab someone away from the Hawaii qualifying place, receive prize money, or sponsor that would actually go to the honest athlete.
Just imagine, years later, that an Athlete would have become Age Group world champion if doped XY had not snatched that title away. Or you could have reached the Hawaii Quali place you've always dreamed of, if the doped athlete XY had not been at the start. Maybe that would give you the chance to get a sponsorship contract, which the doped athlete received and benefited for years until he was spotted.
For the mentioned and other reasons, I do care if someone dopt. I am in favor of the convicted Doper having to pay heavy fines, being banned for life and no longer allowed to play a role in sports.
I think it is also important that this issue is addressed and condemned over and over again in public and especially over the media. For the athletes, whose every means is right to gain an advantage over the competitors, in my understanding, the true meaning of the sport did not understand.

AMEO Powerbreather (04.03.2017)

AMEO Powerbreather (04.03.2017)
I often do my training sessions alone. In particular, the float units, which are often short-lived and have to find place at the edge in addition to the work. The time flexibility is an advantage. In the technically challenging sport of swimming, however, the disadvantage is that no one can control and correct the swimming style. With the Powerbreather I have found a tool with which I can keep this disadvantage within limits. I can concentrate fully on the arm pull with the Powerbreather. Compared to a conventional snorkel, the Powerbreather offers numerous advantages. The different attachments make it possible to vary the resistance of breathing and to simulate a hypoxia training. The Powerbreather is quick and easy to adjust and has the advantage of a constant fresh air supply. In addition, the swim units are simply more fun and more efficient if you can enrich them with this product. It is not surprising that the Powerbreather is used by many professional athletes and won several awards.

DRAFTING (10.10.2016)

DRAFTING
As surely many triathlon fans who were not themselves on Hawaii at the Ironman World Championship, I also saddled this Saturday at home before the Livestream and followed the race. For me it is always a special event, because I can feel the tension properly. I am curious about how the race is going and what highlights are written in the Ironman history books. It has been fun to dive into this world for a short time, even if there is a distance of over 12,000km between.

Today I saw the image of this field athletes. Wind shadow rule non-existent. No, it did not surprise me, but I pushed it out somehow. I've already written about this problem after my participation in Mallorca and Barcelona in 2014, and my last participation in Hawaii as a professional, I've met a lot of such fields of athletes on the way back from Hawi. I asked myself whether it was still fun or whether the people are not all frisky occur? What is the value of such a performance? The charm in the Ironman and in Hawaii may also consist in the fact that one can compete with the world's top.
I would also be among the professionals for a more rigorous interpretation of the rule. The twelve meters are just too few than not to draw a windshade advantage. Especially from these twelve meters then suddenly ten, eight and then five meters with a subsequent team time. The reports and testimony of athletes confirm this fact by speaking of top groups, persecutors group, connection missed, etc.
Not only the good cyclist is the bounced, but also the Superschwimmer can become the Looser. At the latest, when he is riding alone in the wind, and his swimming prowess is ruined by the approaching peloton.
Due to the higher numbers of participants and the higher and higher performance density in Hawaii, the problem of the age class is certainly greater than in the professional field. But also with the professionals there is a need for action if you want Ironman to continue with Windschattenverbot. If this is not the case, the discussion can be saved and, like the Olympic distance, a wind shadow rule can be omitted.
Those who have been practicing this sport for several years know that the problems of enforcing the wind shadow ban have always existed. But over the last ten to fifteen years it has become increasingly difficult to enforce this. For what reasons this development came from my point of view, I already mentioned (number of participants, performance). It is great to see on the one side, the triathlon has become more popular and attracts more and more participants. But whether the solution is with Rollingstarts to drive up the participant numbers I question. There is also a certain self-responsibility with every athlete. Perhaps this has also declined more and more in recent years, which can be attributed to our social development. But the main responsibility to enforce the rules and organize a fair race is the organizer.
The Ironman Hawaii is often referred to as a myth. The race of all races. The race of the best triathletes on this planet. Is the development going so far that it is only a question of allowing as many people as possible to sniff at this myth? If so, in the future you might be able to offer sightseeing tours on the Ironman course, where you will be told the tourist, which was given a long time ago in a competition of the "Ironman". The myth remains but at home nobody cares anymore.
